Uniper needs an individual with knowledge and experience of undertaking structural integrity assessment and structural analysis work in the Power Generation sector, or equivalent. We welcome any candidate who wishes to contribute to our safety record in the management of pressure systems and rotating equipment, both gas and steam turbines, and towards methods of maintaining their reliability and extending their operating life. This role contains significant opportunity for individuals to demonstrate creative problem solving approaches in a field where numerous engineering subjects come together to deliver solutions.

With us, you will be able to develop new business models, work on technological solutions for a modern, sustainable, and future-oriented energy supply as well as pro-actively help to shape changes. Interested? Then we will look forward to meeting you!

Your responsibilities

  • Delivering structural integrity and structural analysis related assessments to the business.

  • Supporting the development of projects in tandem with other team members.

All Candidates

  • A successful candidate will have an engineering degree in Mechanical, Aeronautical or equivalent (candidates with a Physics degree will also be considered provided that they have the relevant experience, but Civil / Structural Engineering candidates will not be considered).

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills including the preparation of detailed technical reports and presentations.

Development Role Candidates

  • It is expected that the candidate will be relatively early in their career that includes delivering finite element and fracture mechanics based assessments of components following R6 / R5 procedures, or equivalent, e.g. API 579 / ASME FFS-1, BS 7910 and / or associated software packages. Critically the successful candidate is expected to be able to work as a supervised practitioner.

  • Ideally, the assessment experience will include components operating in the creep regime, but this is not a requirement for development role.

  • In addition to the above, ideally around a third of the successful candidate’s relevant experience should have been built working with components from pressure parts, gas turbine or steam turbines, i.e. components relevant to the advertised role.

Experienced Candidates

As for the Development Role, but with the following experience:

  • Ideally, experienced candidates will have acquired the relevant level of experience from successfully delivering integrity assessments, to be a self-sufficient practitioner requiring limited supervision within the role.

  • Additionally, a minimum of half of the candidate’s relevant experience should ideally include the delivery of integrity assessments for components operating in the creep regime.

Advanced Practitioner Candidates

  • An advanced practitioner the candidate is expected to have accumulated significant hands on experience delivering finite element and fracture mechanics based  assessments of components with a minimum of half the candidate’s relevant experience including the delivery of fitness for service assessments for components operating in the creep regime. It is expected that the successful candidate will be able to complete the key aspects of the role with no, or very limited, supervision.

Desirable:

  • Chartered Engineer status

  • Knowledge of conventional Power Generation (Coal and / or Gas-fired plant)

  • Experience of undertaking Remaining Life Assessments of pressure parts and rotating plant
