Commercial Project Manager

We are Uniper and we are building. Our energy asset projects are everywhere and we are developing our project execution capabilities. We are seeking a Commercial Project Manager for execution of Energy Asset Projects. You will be responsible for all commercial elements of the project, using your experience to drive successful contract delivery. This is a key role on every project, but is particularly important for high-profile and high-value energy Asset Projects. Would you like to join us?

Your responsibilities

 

The role holder will need to be flexible, adaptable, self-assured and convincing in their knowledge and approach. You will:

  • coordinate all commercial aspects of an Energy Asset Project.
  • be functionally responsible for execution of all commercial aspects, especially contractual relationships with and administration of major contractors.
  • negotiate with suppliers and contractors to meet the project objectives.
  • understand the claims management process and know when to access specialist procurement, legal and claims management support.
  • work in a multi-national environment with all levels of staff.
  • work with the Project Management Office and, depending on the scale of the project, support the Project Controller and Risk Manager activities, or manage those that do.
  • make contractually binding commitments of significant financial sums, often on short time-scales and under pressurised circumstances.
  • be resilient, willing and able to defend financial positions, whether positive or negative, to all relevant stakeholders.
  • operate in ambiguous situations, where fine judgements are required with possible longer term and legal implications.
  • manage the commercial aspects of several projects simultaneously, working from a mix of locations in accordance with project demands.
  • take budgetary responsibility for authorisation of sufficient funds to deliver Asset Projects and for ensuring construction projects are kept within those authorised thresholds.
  • be responsible for managing appropriate change control mechanisms to ensure all expenditure remains compliant with Uniper financial policy.
  • take responsibility for cost calculation, forecasting and cost reporting on Asset Projects, drawing on relevant resources from across the business for support.
 

 

Your profile


Essential

  • Academic qualification in a technical subject and / or an MBA and / or demonstrable qualification by experience.
  • Significant experience in the commercial environment supporting complex technical works and projects.
  • Experienced in running competitive procurement processes for Energy Asset products and services.
  • Contractor negotiation and management expertise.
  • Demonstrable track record of credible relationships developed with technical, financial, procurement and legal colleagues.
  • Experience and understanding of project management skills, processes and activities.
  • Practical commercial project risk management.
  • Profound understanding of complex technical, economic and contractual relations on Asset Projects, including contracting types.
  • Strong and willing communicator, who is convincing and assertive.
  • Application of learning for continuous improvement, both within and between projects.
  • Diversity Management: embraces challenge and opportunities to enhance outcomes by evaluating situations from different perspectives, leverages cultural differences.
  • Fluent in English.


Desirable:

  • Project management qualification.
  • Knowledge and awareness of different energy technologies, including fossil, renewables and novel technologies.
  • International energy projects experience.
  • Second language.
