DCS/Control System Engineer

Working as our DCS Engineer you will be a key player in supporting reliable operation, improvements, maintaining optimum availability and promoting safe utilisation and operation of a high merit power station by effective management of the installed ABB Distributed Control System (DCS). Enfield, Grain & Taylors Lane ("EGTL") are a collection of Power Plants in Uniper's UK portfolio in the South East. EGTL play a key role in Unipers transition to a low carbon future, generating over 1820MW of combined electricity when there is insufficient renewable power and providing security of supply to over 5 million homes and businesses in the UK. We have a diverse team of highly talented and experienced Engineers, who work as part of an integrated structure in Engineering and Operations spanning all three sites, this gives us a real community feel. Your responsibilities

 

  • You will be responsible for proactive day to day maintenance and support of the site DCS infrastructure.
  • Managing and implementing SIL and Cybersecurity procedures.
  • Coaching and developing technicians and others not normally involved in day to day DCS Engineering throughout the station.
  • You will be fully committed and flexible in order to meet challenging business requirements and carry out all duties with a minimum of supervision including 24/7 call-out, or remote dial in support.
  • Engineering, implementation and commissioning of plant improvements that require modification of the DCS system, its code or process parameters.
  • To coordinate and support re-commissioning activities and return to service of units post outage.
  • Management of own budgets and contracts and be able to forecast, track budgets , monitor the progress and quality of work undertaken as part of the role.
  • Based at the Enfield site you will also have a support function across two other sites in the South East.
 

 

Your profile


Essential

  • Familiar with ABB AC160, AC450, and 800xa systems
  • An HNC or engineering craft based qualification in an appropriate engineering discipline to NVQ level 3 or equivalent with appropriate industrial experience.
  • A good working knowledge of health and safety and environmental legislation and standards to NEBOSH/IOSH as appropriate, or equivalent.


Desirable:

  • Knowledge of Allen Bradley and Siemens PCS7 systems would be advantageous.
  • Strong analytical ability.
  • Have a broad understanding of Power Station operations; including knowledge and experience of maintenance activities in an engineering skill enabling you to carry out  the repair, and overhaul of a wide range of mechanical plant.
