Engineering Support Team Member

We are looking for an engineer with power plant experience to join our Engineering Support team at Connah's Quay Power Station. Located in North Wales, we generate power from four 345MW units to help meet the energy demands of the UK. Our current role is moving away from traditional bulk energy supply. We operate to help National Grid stabilize the national system through frequency and voltage regulation, ensuring power is available to maintain security of supply. Playing our part in the transition to a low carbon economy is something we are proud of. We look to do this at the lowest sustainable cost to the consumer, whilst helping to ensure the integrity of the grid system.

Your responsibilities

 

•    Work within the engineering support team with responsibilities in areas such as plant reliability, performance, compliance, project delivery and long-term plant strategy.
•    Work with the wider site teams to perform analysis of asset reliability, performance and then effectively communicate results to the engineering community.
•    Lead on plant improvement projects to optimise plant performance, maximise reliability, and minimise downtime, whilst ensuring all works is completed to time, cost, quality and engaging with all necessary stakeholders.
•    Ensure that relevant plant areas and risks are fully understood through engagement with engineering, maintenance and production colleagues.
•    A proven ability to identify and analyse situations by isolating key issues, evaluating relevant data and drawing appropriate conclusions.
•    Lead failure investigations, adopting suitable techniques (e.g. root cause analysis, failure reporting, analysis and corrective action system (FRACAS)).
•    Provide technical support to site teams as required. 
•    Implement and manage financial/contract resources effectively and efficiently.
•    Act as a HSSE champion in the team and take responsibility for managing standards in selected plant areas.
•    Maintain and improve professional engineering knowledge.

 

 

Your profile


Essential:
•    Relevant Degree or demonstratable experience in a similar engineering environment.
•    A broad understanding of power plant, petrochemical or similar process industry.
•    A broad knowledge and experience of maintenance processes and activities.
•    Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
•    Experience managing and/or developing contracts.
•    Able to deal with activities for which there is no set precedent.
•    Ability to communicate effectively with all stakeholders.
•    Required to work flexibly and take on additional activities within capability and competence.
•    Strong team culture that values collaboration and open communication.

Desirable:
•    Achieved or working towards accredited status to a recognised engineering body (CEng / IEng).
•    Project Management qualification.
•    Control/Process systems experience.
•    Condition Based Monitoring experience.
•    Familiarity with CMMS systems such as SAP.
