Asset Support & Outage Excellence Team Leader

The Asset Support and Outage Excellence UK (ASUK) Team play a key role supporting power plant projects, outages and maintenance activities across the UK. The role is high-profile in helping to deliver Uniper's business strategy of accelerating the energy transition while ensuring security of supply. We are currently recruiting for a Team Leader within the Asset Support & Outage Excellence UK team responsible for our Northern assets. Your responsibilities

 

As the ASUK Team Leader you will be required to lead a remote multidisciplined project engineering team in the effective delivery of outages, projects, and general maintenance / engineering support. Primary accountability for this role is to cover our Northern assets but resourcing maybe at times required across our other UK assets requiring extensive travel and flexible working as appropriate to deliver this.

 

You will lead the team to ensure fit for purpose engineering solutions (through design, implementation & commissioning) are delivered compliant to robust engineering principles and project & outage management best practice. Thereby ensuring long term technical health, integrity and performance of the asset delivered in a safe, efficient, and sustainable manner, maximising the commercial benefit within legislation, regulations, and policy requirements.

 

A significant part of the role includes responsibility for all resourcing, prioritisation as well as the deployment and technical direction of associated resources, directly or via others. This requires the fostering of excellent relationships with key internal stakeholders across Energy Assets and other parts of the organisation.

 

Key Activities:

  • Act as part of the ASUK Leadership team to provide visible safety leadership and drive the culture, standards, and performance of the team.
  • Develop resource strategies to optimise the structure & approach to delivering the required works using all available resources efficiently – team member, contractors, other teams & external support.
  • Act as key interface with nominated sites for all aspects for resource planning, feedback and lessons learned.
  • Lead, review and actively promote excellent Health, Safety, Sustainability, Environmental & Quality (HSSE&Q) performance of the team, delivery of HSSEQ improvement plan and to look for continuous improvements.
  • Accountable for the management, technical specification, tendering, placement and value enhancing delivery of all contracts managed by the team.
  • Takes the role of Engineering Representative and/or Responsible Engineer on portfolio engineering contracts (£multi-million) as required.
  • Drive continuous improvement through application of current Operational Excellence (OE) tools to enhance process, function & team performance.
  • Lead investigations into process safety or quality incidents on behalf of ASUK or Energy Assets and share lessons learnt as required.
  • Deliver, through the team, value enhancing improvement projects / initiatives using robust project management philosophies and tools.
  • Prepare and deliver annually a three-year business plan, to include an activity-based bottom-up budget for all areas of responsibility, in line with the ASUK objectives and strategy. Pro-actively monitor and review financial budgets to manage team expenditure.
  • Responsibility for preparation, execution, and close out of projects and support activities that have been agreed with Energy Asset in the UK. This includes coordination with all other relevant functions across AO & AM and ensuring Safe project delivery to time, quality, and budget in compliance with Outage Best Practice (OBP) processes & timescales, including close out and recording activities.
  • Agrees the framework or context for related new processes and procedures by representing the business unit on significant company working / steering groups and committees as required.
  • Accountable for the personal delivery of nominated roles allocated, and line responsibility for those roles held by team members.

Your profile


Essential:

  • A relevant degree or equivalent qualifications & experience with appropriate engineering knowledge transferable to a Power Station environment.
  • Experience leading remote teams with demonstrable results.
  • Strong & proven project management experience.
  • An extensive understanding of Power Station Operations.
  • Detailed knowledge of current policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge and experience of engineering and maintenance practice in relation to mechanical, electrical and C&I based equipment.
  • Strong capability in contract / contractor management, with good awareness of a variety of service-related contracts with hands-on experience of negotiating, specifying, and managing service agreements and contracts.
  • Good financial and commercial awareness
  • A thorough understanding of relevant health, Safety and environmental legislation and standards.
  • A minimum safety qualification of IOSH managing safely or equivalent.
  • A thorough understanding of commercial activities associated with all station operations.
