DCS Shift Operator (control room)

We have an opportunity for a motivated DCS (Distributed Control System) Shift Operator (control room) to join our skilled production team at Uniper's Upper Tier COMAH facility, Holford Gas Storage. Forming part of the UK's critical infrastructure, this flexible and highly automated fast churn gas storage facility is key to delivering security of supply to the UK's natural gas supply system.

Your responsibilities

 

  • Be responsible for the safe transit of gas to/from and during storage at the asset
  • Independently lead commercial & optimisation decisions in conjunction with the trading team and Commercial Manager.
  • Take out of hours commercial decisions to optimise the asset, reduce costs and maintaining availability.
  • Proactively ensure Safety Instrumented Systems are monitored and tested to schedule and that issues are immediately addressed.
  • Work to become the ‘Lead Operator’, including deputising for the Production Manager in Key aspects of the role.
  • Provide support to the commercial team in delivering innovative products to the gas storage market.
  • Maintain operational documentation & logs to a high standard.
  • Form an integral part of the site Emergency Response Team.
  • Proactively report, investigate and lead the solving of plant issues, utilising the DCS system and working with the engineering dept to minimise operational losses and plant availability.
  • Work within defined safe systems of work.
  • Write and review safety, environment and operational procedures on a frequent basis.
  • Deliver wider business, multi-faceted cross functional projects.
  • Complete audits of operational documents.
  • Competently work within management systems to maintain compliance.
 

 

Your profile


Essential:

  • Applicable process operator qualification i.e. ONC/NVQ LEVEL 3 (or relevant experience)
  • Have a strong willingness to develop themself and can independently lead this development.
  • Can demonstrate competence in Process Safety.
  • Ability to work within, and to promote an excellent safety culture.
  • DCS (distributed control system) control room experience.
  • Can work effectively and flexibly in a high performing team, including working a 12 hour shift pattern and Mon – Fri pattern as the business requires.
  • Can react appropriately to day to day unplanned, or short term plant/commercial issues.
  • Able to plan, prioritise and independently deliver work packages to time, cost & quality.
  • Has a good understanding of health, safety and environmental legislation.
  • Is able to continually identify areas for improvement and deliver these as part of a wider team in a proactive manner.
  • Has a committed and flexible approach to work.
  • Can work well independently, or within a team.

 

Desirable:

  • Relevant Upper tier COMAH experience (Control of Major Accident Hazard).
  • Has proven ability to engage and communicate effectively with all stakeholders.
  • Experience in maintenance management systems (preferably SAP PM).
  • Proficient IT skills (Excel/Word/Powerpoint/Outlook).
  • IOSH, NEBOSH (Managing safety) certificate or equivalent.
  • Confidence to challenge established practices and suggest innovative solutions.
  • Experience in Cyber Security, or the desire to learn.
  • Experience within the Oil & Gas/Petro-chem industry.
