Lead Electrical Engineer

The Asset Support and Outage Excellence Team play a key role supporting power plant projects, outages and maintenance activities across the UK. The role is high-profile in helping to ensure security of supply in the UK and deliver Uniper's business strategy to be a world class leader. We are looking for an experienced Lead Electrical Engineer to fill a discipline specific role. Your responsibilities

 

We are looking for people who can bring a flexible, enthusiastic approach, are highly self-motivated, conscientious and can demonstrate ownership of issues through to the implementation of solutions.

 

You will be capable of demonstrating and developing extensive knowledge and skills in a range of varied electrical engineering and maintenance work activities of a complex and non-routine nature in such a way as to maximise resource utilisation and power plant availability. You must display capacity for individual responsibility and autonomy while demonstrating exemplary standards of  HSSE and quality culture.

 

Key Activities            

  • The successful candidate will be responsible to a Team Leader for ensuring that work targets and objectives are satisfactorily completed and that all work is completed across the main KPI’s (safety, time, cost, quality, technical performance and compliance)

  • Responsible for delivering projects and outages, working closely with the Asset Operations, Asset Management and OEMS’s ensuring process compliance, CDM compliance and the highest standard of HSSE and Quality performance. 

  • Duties to include:

    • Manage delivery of projects and outages as defined by the Stakeholder, in line with contract, procurement and project management processes.

    • Lead project teams as required dependent on project complexity.

    • Establish and maintain relationships with Stakeholders to allow communication and collaborative working.

    • Deliver project charters which clearly define objectives, expectations and communication plans.

    • Develop technical and contract specifications to allow procurement tendering processes to proceed.

    • Manage the Health, Safety, Security and Environment aspects of the asset project and to the Stakeholder standards.

    • Establish and ensure delivery of contractor Quality Assurance and Quality Control. 

  • Technical design and delivery of low to high risk technical improvement projects.

  • To review and develop any operation & maintenance packages including critical spares allowing a comprehensive handover to the Stakeholder.

  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of the project management and quality assurance systems through the job plan improvement and failure reporting utilising corrective action systems.

  • Manage and contribute to the improvement of safety performance including regular audits of the work control management process.

  • Manage delivery of maintenance and warranty within the required timescales determined by the risk and in line with contract management and work planning and scheduling processes.

  • Support the development of Asset Support UK, UK Power Plant staff and wider Asset Management initiatives.

  • Responsible for ensuring that latest developments of industry best practice in terms of HSSE and Quality management are implemented and maintained and that adopted practices are routinely reviewed for effectiveness. Ensuring that the appropriate level of monitoring is implemented and maintained during works.

  • Working with financial controlling to maintain accurate, live project cost data.

  • Trained and competent in safety assessment by producing such documents as risk assessments, method statements, manual handling, hot work assessments etc.

  • Demonstrate a proactive approach to the role by clearly identifying practical and effective means of improving technical, commercial or procedural aspects related to the role.

 

 

Your profile


Essential:

  • Experienced in power plant or equivalent electrical engineering including generators, motors, transformers, switchgear and HV distribution systems. Maintenance of and risk management is essential.

  • A sound understanding of power plant operations, knowledge of current regulations and policy which affect the management and operations of power plant engineering assets.

  • Contract Management skills and experience to appropriately challenge contractors on the methods, quality, and standards of work.

  • Strong interpersonal skills to enable effective working relationships within the team, across functions and with senior stakeholders.

  • Excellent communication, planning and organisational skills to include effective prioritisation and resource management.

  • A good working knowledge of health, safety and environmental legislation and standards to NEBOSH or equivalent.    

  • Educated to a Higher National Diploma or Degree level in an Engineering discipline, supported with a sound technical knowledge of engineering and maintenance practices gained through experience.

  • A broad knowledge and experience of maintenance activities in an engineering skill spanning more than one plant area.

  • To be able to challenge appropriately to ensure projects are suitably defined and agreed to optimise business value.

  • Fault finding and problem-solving skills.

  • Contract and project management skills to be able to run several contracts within a project which involve on/off site working to include the health, safety and environmental aspects as well as the commercial and technical issues.

 

Desirable:

  • Use and knowledge of best practice lean tools for resolving engineering issues to root cause level.

  • APMP or Prince 2 project management qualification.

  • Knowledge and competence of using SAP based systems.

  • Experience of working in a fast paced environment.
