Your responsibilities
This role supports Uniper’s North American gas, environmental, new energies, and other commodity businesses. As part of the local Accounting Business Partner team for US and Canada, the Senior Accountant is responsible for the financial closing process in alignment with local and functional stakeholders and manages the interface to Uniper’s accounting functions in the headquarters and its shared service center.
Key Responsibilities:
Coordinate the financial closing process in alignment with local stakeholders and relevant functions in the headquarters and ensure compliance with accounting policies and internal control requirements. Perform all journal entries and reconciliations as part of the closing process.
Review and enhance internal controls, standards and processes to ensure accuracy and consistency of data used for decision-making, internal/external reporting and other communications.
Develop and maintain expert knowledge of derivatives, lease, revenue recognition and fair value guidance according to IFRS.
Review mark-to-market valuations for commodity derivatives and prepare journal entries in accordance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
Work with mid-office to ensure completeness and accuracy of natural gas and helium inventories and prepare month end inventory journal entries using weighted average cost of goods sold (WACOG) methodology.
Review and reconcile broker statements with Enterprise Trading and Risk Management (ETRM) data and prepare appropriate journal entries.
Work with Settlements team to ensure that month end accruals are complete and accurate and create appropriate journal entries.
Analyze and explain volumetric variances between current month, prior month, and accruals.
Prepare and analyze balance sheet accounts reconciliations to ensure accuracy of month end account balances.
Act as main interface for internal and external auditors. Prepare documentation in support of external and internal audits.
Respond to transaction review requests and manage process with commercial personnel.
Maintain strong working relationships with front and mid-office personnel, attorneys, internal and external auditors, and other support functions.
Identify front-to-end optimization and digitalization potential supporting the acceleration and reliability of Uniper’s financial closing process and develop and implement best-practice-solutions in alignment with other involved parties.
Collaborate in cross-functional projects, including new ETRM implementation and other IT projects, representing the accounting function.
Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Your profile
Minimum bachelor’s degree in business or accounting. CPA/CMA qualification preferred.
Minimum three to five three years of derivative accounting experience accounting or an audit role with deep experience in commodity accounting and month end closing processes.
Experience with Enterprise Trading and Risk Management systems.
Employ fundamental accounting skills: general ledger, account reconciliations.
Working proficiency and knowledge in Excel and Power BI.
Experience in accounting and finance related IT applications, preferably SAP.
Fluent in written and spoken English.
Strong analytical and solution-oriented mind-set combined with excellent communication skills allowing for effective communication of financial matters towards business and management audiences.
Proactive and ability to actively collaborate across boundaries.
