Your responsibilities

 

The Head of New Energies Origination will lead the structure, strategy, and management of New Energies Origination team in North America. This role involves driving business growth, fostering innovation in clean energy solutions, and ensuring the team achieves strategic objectives aligned with the company’s global vision and respective commercial mandates.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

Strategic Leadership:

Oversee all new energy exports from the Americas and domestic activities within North America, specifically in the United States and Canada.

Lead and support the direction of the business in alignment with New Energies Origination and UGCNA mandates.

Deliver MTP budgetary goals and objectives.

Ensure short-term and long-term strategic priorities are met and aligned with organizational goals and ensure sustained profitability for New Energies Origination are achieved.

 

Team Leadership and Development:

Lead the development, coaching, and mentorship of a high-performing team, fostering a collaborative culture that supports professional growth and organizational success.

Focus on retaining top talent by ensuring employees are motivated by company objectives and personal goals, empowering them to make meaningful contributions.

 

Operational Excellence:

Develop and oversee mid-term and long-term budgets, ensuring the effective management of controllable costs.

Maintain strong alignment with relevant stakeholders in CCO (Portfolio, Logistics and Operations), and key functional areas, including Legal & Compliance, Risk, Credit, Tax, Accounting, Group Finance, Business Controlling, Strategy, HSSE & Sustainability, Operations & IT, and other departments as necessary to ensure compliance, mitigate risks, and support the successful onboarding of counterparties and transactions.

Establish and promote strong transaction review, governance and compliance frameworks.

Promote and encourage strong entrepreneurial spirit throughout the organization.

 

Market Development and Innovation:

Provide leadership in capturing platform synergies and developing new market opportunities.

Drive cross-selling and up-selling of Uniper’s existing platform capabilities to maximize value creation.

Elevate the organization’s reputation and visibility in the energy industry by delivering exceptional results, promoting the Uniper Group interests, advancing market development and access, and fostering strategic partnerships and alliances that serve Uniper's goals and objectives as a Global Commodity player.

 

Industry Representation:

Serve as an external ambassador for Uniper, representing the company at key industry events, customer engagements.

Leverage industry expertise and relationships to enhance Uniper’s market presence.

 

Overarching Objectives:

Deliver measurable business growth and align all activities with Uniper’s commercial vision and strategic priorities.

Establish Uniper’s presence in the market for products associated with New Energies in North America with various local stakeholders associated with production, consumption, logistics and regulation.

Ensure coherence across the business mandate, promote a positive culture (Uniper Way), and thorough planning through collaborative leadership with other departments and teams.

 

 

Your profile


A bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, business administration, or a related field is required. Advanced degrees such as an MBA or equivalent are strongly preferred.

 

Extensive Commercial Leadership and Transactional Background:

10+ years of commercial and leadership experience in commodities origination, marketing and trading, with a proven track record of delivering significant P&L results.

Demonstrated success building businesses within a multi-national company, a leading energy or commodities firm, or a large trading house.

A reputation for generating stable and sustainable earnings across energy value-chain, while consistently delivering exceptional outcomes for customers.

 

Financial Literacy, Risk Management Expertise and Product Orientation:

Comprehensive understanding of risk management and control environments, including front, middle, and back-office operations.

Proficiency in Risk Governance, Value at Risk (VaR), limits, reporting, and diverse financial instruments and derivatives.

Proven ability to manage and mitigate risks effectively in dynamic market environments.

Ability to understand and develop products, structures and solutions in a cross-commodity, flexibility focused environment supporting portfolio development.

General aptitude towards the economics of hydrogen, its derivatives, and green fuels and the underlying price drivers.

 

Leadership and Team Development:

Broad management experience, including developing high-performing teams within complex technical and commercial environments.

Gravitas and deep knowledge to inspire and drive the development of a market-leading team.

Exceptional communication skills with the ability to distill complex strategies and business objectives into actionable insights and engage effectively with senior leadership and board of management.

 

Global Perspective and Strategic Influence:

Experience working with large, multi-national, and complex organizations, showcasing a global orientation and an ability to navigate diverse cultural and operational landscapes.

Recognized as a trusted advisor who builds trust and confidence among stakeholders.

Demonstrated capability to collaborate across regions and departments to achieve cohesive and strategic objectives.

Proven expertise in origination, marketing, trading, portfolio operations, risk management, financial analysis, and team leadership.
