Two units are in operation at the Franken site in Nürnberg. They have a net output of 823 megawatts and were commissioned in 1973 and 1976. Franken is mainly used as a peak-load and reserve power plant generating onto the 110 KV Bayernwerk power grid. In addition, a traction current converter with 2 x 30 megawatts output is operated by the plant, and district heating is provided for regional suppliers. The Franken power plant was classified by the Federal Network Agency as system-relevant. Currently we are looking for you to lead the Franken Power plant located in Nürnberg!

What we are looking for

The Plant Manager of Franken reports to the Operations Director of the Gas Turbine Fleet and is responsible for the leadership and management of the plant organisation to:

  • Deliver the safe, compliant, reliable, sustainable and profitable operations of the assets in compliance with the applicable legal and policy requirements
  • Setting the vision, strategy and direction of the Plant, in conjunction with other functional areas, to deliver Uniper’s strategic targets
  • Leading and developing the team to ensure the right capabilities and competencies exist
  • Developing and maintaining good relationships with internal & external stakeholders and customers, locally, nationally and across the international Uniper group
  • Drive the continuous performance improvement and delivering the targets of the Plant in all business dimensions
  • Align closely and cooperate with the international Gas Turbine Fleet to deliver joint targets
  • Collaborate strongly with codetermination bodies and the HR department


Dimensions of the role:

  • ~50 FTE + agency and contracted support
  • ~12 million EUR Controllable Costs (CoCo)/Budget for operation & maintanence
  • ~2 million EUR CAPEX budget per year
  • Legal accountability in Germany




Who we are seeking

  • A recognised champion of a sustainable HSSE (Health, Safety, Security and Environment) culture
  • Excellent leadership skills combined with extensive experience in leading organisational change management processes including close cooperation with codetermination bodies
  • Several years of proven operational experience in power plant / asset management and employee management
  • Education in engineering studies or business studies to an academic degree level or equivalent
  • Extensive understanding of appropriate legislation and standards
  • A track record of understanding context to define and implement value enhancing strategies
  • Solid financial and commercial awareness
  • Strong entrepreneurial skills to explore future options for the Plant and business
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills as well as the ability to manage performance and motivate individuals and a team
  • Planning and organization skills to include effective prioritisation and resource management
  • Strong identification with the Uniper Way and the ability to live the Uniper Way
  • Strong communicator in German & English and able to collaborate effectively in internationally diverse teams
