The joint Fortum Uniper Renewables team is responsible for wind and solar business development of the group in Europe. The renewables business is a key pillar of Fortum and Unipers strategy. The team aims to deliver more than 1 GW of wind and solar projects per annum by 2025. The Engineering & Technology -department within the Renewables unit is responsible for the engineering of all solar and wind projects of Fortum-Uniper and acts as the technical center of excellence for project development, procurement, construction, operations, and asset management. With regard to our rapidly growing business we are currently looking for an experienced engineer (f/m/d) to join our team and take on a position that demands great responsibilities and influences growth - both yours and the company´s. The primary location of the role can be in Düsseldorf (Germany), Birmingham (United Kingdom), Espoo (Finland) or Stockholm (Sweden) and remote work is standard practice in the group.

What we are looking for

  • As a grid specialist you will become a key member within our Renewables Engineering team, mainly responsible for supporting development, construction and operations teams in grid related matters throughout our solar and wind projects in Europe
  • Grid expert within Renewables team with a key focus on the German market, but also supporting other European projects
  • Understanding the German legislation and regulations in terms of grid connection in order to develop guidelines and tools for planning, organizing, executing and controlling project related activities
  • Responsible for the detailed technical review of Renewables project requirements, including grid connection designs, single line drawings and site layouts
  • Create and review grid engineering related documents like techno-economic assessments for grid solutions and -connections
  • Provide technical support during the execution phase of Renewable projects for authorization ans permits for grid connection
  • Sharing best practices and lessons learned about grid connection of Solar and Wind power plants with key stakeholders using detailed reports and technical notes
  • Undertaking analysis of grid availability in German grid and presenting opportunities for connection of Renewable projects
  • Providing grid due diligence and analysis of internal projects and those presented by third parties like development partners or as part of acquisition activities
  • Working with DNOs and TNOs to secure grid connection for the new projects and to provide options for optimizing connections
  • Liaising with internal stakeholders and plant managers and being a conduit between the development teams and internal/external technical teams with grid related topics
  • Monitoring and interpreting technical and relevant regulatory developments and standards and delivering technical and non technical reports to stakeholders involved
  • Ensure proosed solutions adhere to applicable industry standards and electrical engineering design principles as they relate specifacally to Renewable energy systems including wind and solar power, battery energy storage systems (BESS) and power systems
  • Contribute to and help maintain grid and electrical technical specifications from our partners contracts



Who we are seeking

  • You are passionate about renewable energy and energy transition
  • You hold a Bachelor’s or Master's degree in electrical engineering or similar with excellent grades
  • You have a good technical understanding of the German grid code, and knowledge from  technologies and projects from the whole renewables value chain
  • Deep understanding of the electrical properties of renewable energy systems and their interaction with other electrical systems e.g. controls including several years of experience focused on utility-scale renewable projects
  • Experience in power system analysis related to grid connection and feasibility studies as well as power system simulation software such as Digsilent powerfactory, PSCAD, etc. is also expected to be proficient
  • Strong technical focus and proactive mindset with the ability to handle multiple projects and multiple stakeholders simultaneously, equipped with general business acumen
  • You are a reliable team player and quick learner with outstanding written and oral communication skills
  • Strong negotiation and networking skills in a multi-cultural setting and the ability to easily adapt to a dynamic working environment
  • You are an open-minded individual with an amazing sense of humor and good social skills
  • You bring new ideas to the table, have an eye for details, but keep the big picture in focus
  • Fluency in German is key, while the working language English is critical, additional language skills are highly valued
  • You would have a high level of mobility and willingness to travel internationally
