What we are looking for

 

This is an ideal opportunity for a forward thinking technical individual to join Hosting & Cloud Technology (HaCT) within Uniper. The successful candidate will help HaCT in design & adopting the latest technology & techniques and bring the solutions to end users in an easily consumable manner.

  • Be service owner for Cloud Database (IaaS and PaaS) as well as storage (on-prem and cloud) and archiving topics
  • Taking ownership on governance of DB on IaaS as well as DB on PaaS and (Cloud) Storage
  • Create, publish and advertise usage guidelines for DB IaaS and DB PaaS and (Cloud) Storage
  • Act as knowledge multiplicator for the those guidelines in the area of responsibility
  • Run an offshore DBA team to support DB on IaaS workloads
  • Shape the Uniper system landscape with regards to databases based on the Uniper strategy and the cloud strategy
  • Actively contribute to the Hosting and Cloud Technology roadmap
  • Improve processes to create a more stable system landscape and enhance the user experience
  • Implement automation to avoid human error and reduce effort and process overhead
  • Identify optimization potential in resource usage, work efficiency and processes
  • Face internal and external audit - making sure all requirements and artifacts are met and provided - ensure 100% compliance in area of responsibility
  • Act as escalation point for any (operational) issues in the services
  • Guide application teams to migrate their workloads to PaaS offerings (primary (but not exclusive) focus area PostgreSQL)
  • Guide and govern data usage pattern
  • Assist teams outside of HaCT in finding the right data architecture by leveraging the available PaaS offerings

 

 

Who we are seeking

 

  • University or higher degree with at least five years related experiences Azure, Oracle, SQL and Azure storage
  • Experience in leading a multi diverse team of experts
  • Having an appetite for new and innovative technologies e.g. which can be used to analyse, optimize and automate
  • Good interpersonal in verbal and written communication skills such as chairing meetings, facilitating workshops, presenting to peers and building personal networks
  • You will need strong conceptualisation skills,
  • A demonstrable record of being able to translate abstract concepts into concrete technically-sound recommendations for action across a broad spectrum of technologies.
  • You should have excellent communication skills with the ability to explain technical details in non-technical terms.
  • Influence senior stakeholders, and to operate both tactically and strategically to influence in the short and long term.
  • Fluent in English language, German language skills an advantage
  • Solid Oracle and MS SQL Server background knowledge, PostgreSQL skills/understanding advantageous - this includes understanding of the licensing (in particular Oracle)
  • Solid understanding of the Azure cloud - focus areas on IaaS (VMs, disks, performance) as well as DB PaaS offerings and storage offerings
  • Understanding of cost mechanisms in Azure
  • Project management skills
  • Experience leading and guiding an offshore development team
  • Strong mindset on improving and shaping the system landscape
  • Ability to find solutions by applying common sense and matching Uniper level goals at the same time
  • Solid understanding of Azure Data offerings and ability to draft/architect solutions that make best use of (multiple) Azure PaaS offerings to fulfil the given requirements
  • Experience with modern/cloud based (Azure) data architecture ranging from small solutions up till large and complex applications
